The Serra de Ubatuba is located on the north coast of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, being part of the Rio–Santos Highway (BR-101) and the Serra do Mar region. The area is known for its sharp curves, Atlantic Forest vegetation, and beautiful natural landscapes connecting the coast to nearby cities. The region began to develop during the 20th century, especially between the 1970s and 1980s, when the highways made access to the northern coast easier for tourists and residents.

During the 1990s, the Serra de Ubatuba became known among some drivers for illegal street racing, mainly at night, because of its winding roads and lower traffic in certain hours. As accidents increased, highway police strengthened inspections and monitoring over the years. In the most recent road renovations and maintenance projects, improvements included new asphalt, better road signs, safety barriers, and systems to reduce landslide risks caused by the region’s heavy rain. Today, the Serra de Ubatuba is constantly monitored to improve driver safety and protect the surrounding environmental area.
