The R12 Alpine was never sold in France — it was built exclusively for the Argentine market between 1977 and 1980, hand-assembled with imported parts and a 1.4L engine borrowed from the R5 Alpine pushing 110hp. Only 493 were ever made, which made it cost 40% more than a standard R12 and rare enough that even Renault didn't bother with volume production. The signature black and gold two-tone with "alpine" script along the door is exactly how the first generation left the factory — one of the most distinctive liveries ever put on a family sedan.
